Thrifted Thursday // Vintage Rattan Hanging Swings

Over the past couple of years, the hanging rattan chairs first made popular in the middle of the 20th century have made a big come back. They're often highlighted in shelter magazines and on popular blogs ... and it's not surprising. They have wonderfully clean lines and there's just something magical about a chair that allows light through, envelopes you in coziness *and* lets you swing at the same time.

Serena & Lily makes a gorgeous version of the classic for $415 and the popular resale site Chairish has this fabulous vintage option for $315. But if you're not willing to shell out that much, want the look for your living room, sun room, nursery or master bedroom and are in the Boston area, there are some great options on Craig's List this week.

I love the detailing on this natural rattan version listed at $300 (though I might offer $250 as it's been re-listed a few times now). This would look so wonderful in a kid's room, wouldn't it?

And I just love the egg shape of this painted version. The seller is asking $290 for this one but again, it's been listed a couple of times now so I'd probably offer $230 and see where that gets you. If it was mine -- and I had the right space for it -- I'd probably spray it a glossy black and hang it in a bedroom or a sun room with a brass side table next to it. So gorgeous!

  1. I love rattan so much that almost all of my furniture are rattan items.
